Troop 280: Building Tomorrow's Leaders Through Traditional Scout Values
Troop 280 is a growing Boy Scout Troop in the Julington Creek (Florida) area. Our charter was granted by the North Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America on February 19, 2009. We are sponsored by River of Life United Methodist Church, but are open to all boys between the ages of 11 and 17 years old. We meet every Monday evening at River of Life throughout the calendar year.
MISSION:
The mission of Troop 280 is to enable our scouts to learn and live by the Scout oath and law. Our Troop strives to build tomorrow’s leaders by being a boy-led Troop and utilizes the Patrol method of Scouting. Advancement and achievement is viewed as a means to provide solid experiences for learning, personal growth and development and fostering of teamwork. Our philosophy is that advancement and achievement is not an end to itself, but is the means to provide experiences for learning, teamwork, and personal growth. The Troop concentrates on boys learning traditional skills through experience, with at least one outdoor experience each month year round. We also participate in summer camp programs where boys get to work on learning and refinement of new skills.
VISION:
We are building an atmosphere which recognizes that sometimes the best learning comes from reaching above abilities, even if that means failing on the first try. We also believe that the best way to learn to become a leader is to lead, and encourage all of our youth to become responsible for one area of Troop management. We also strive and encourage to have all boys feel a part of the team, and new boys are always made to feel welcomed and valued.
If you want a scouting experience that is full of fun, learning, and is oriented towards the traditional values of scouting, we would very much like for you to explore scouting with us!
